CHINA – A deadly new virus in China has killed three and infected more than 200 since December, according to the World Health Organization.
The virus – coronavirus – causes pneumonia.
There are many types of Coronaviruses but only six, and now the new one making it even, infect people.
In 2002-03, an outbreak in China of severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars), which is caused by a coronavirus, killed 774 and infected 8,098 people.
Coronaviruses are known to cause symptoms ranging from a mild cold to death. Officials say the new virus appears to be somewhere in the middle.
Most of the new cases in China are in Wuhan. A few more have been found in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
Other countries such as Thailand, South Korean and Japan have reported cases.
The U.S. has started screening travelers arriving in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles airports.
Canada isn’t screening travelers for the deadly virus. They are, however, putting up signs about the virus in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal airports.
