CFIA recalls 12 different Fresh Express salads due to possible parasite contamination

Fresh Express is recalling Fresh Express brand salad products across Canada due to possible Cyclospora contamination.

The Fresh Express salads include: Chopped Kit Chipotle Cheddar, American, Chopped Kit Thai ‘N’ Cashews, Veggie Lover’s, Chopped Kit Sunflower Crisp, Iceberg Garden, Iceberg Garden, SHREDS, Green & Crisp, Chopped Kit Asia, Chopped Kit Southwest, and 3 Color Deli Cole Slaw.

The salads have best before dates of July 8 to 14.

According to the CDC, Cyclospora cayetanensis is a parasite composed of one cell, too small to be seen without a microscope. This parasite causes an intestinal infection called cyclosporiasis.

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.

Check to see if you have the recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with Cyclospora may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. People infected with Cyclospora can experience a wide range of symptoms, including watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea. Some people do not get sick at all, while others suffer from a severe upset stomach. Few people get seriously ill.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
