RED DEER COUNTY – A driver of a motorcycle is dead after a collision with a pickup truck pulling a camper trailer.
Innisfail RCMP is investigating of a two-vehicle collision that occurred at about 1:30 p.m., on Hwy 42 at the intersection with the QEII.
Preliminary investigation reveals that a motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Hwy 42 and made contact with a pickup truck pulling a camper trailer travelling westbound on Hwy 42 turning south to merge onto the QEII.
The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
Innisfail RCMP along with a RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate. Hwy 42 was closed for about two-and-a-half hours but is now cleared from the collision.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this time. The name of the deceased will not be released pending Next of Kin notification,” said Cpl. Jon Cormier, RCMP Media Relations.
No further updates are anticipated.
RCMP are also reporting two separate traffic collisions on the Northbound lanes of Hwy II, between Glen Park Road and the City of Leduc (south of the City of Leduc).
Police are advising motorists to take their time and to expect delays as they travel North to Leduc. As summer vacation season is upon us, many people are taking advantage of the warm weather to travel.
Police wish to remind motorists to expect an increase in traffic volume on major highways. Remember to plan adequate time for your journey and travel safely – don’t follow too closely to the vehicle in front of you, travel within the speed limit and don’t drink and drive.
