Body found in river near Rocky Mountain House appears to be linked to death of Ontario man

Ontario Provincial Police have ruled the death of a man in Thorndale as a homicide that has ties to another death in Rocky Mountain House, Alta.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, officers were called to a home on Leesboro Trail on Tuesday, May 26, after a body of a man was found. An autopsy confirmed that the death was a homicide and the victim was identified as 27-year-old Sean Collins of Thorndale.

Two days after Collins’ body was discovered, another man was found dead in the North Saskatchewan River, near Rocky Mountain House. The man, who is believed to have drowned, was identified as Alexander Collins, 30, of Thorndale.

Police indicated that the two deaths are linked but haven’t released any more information including how the two men are related.

Police believe there is no risk to the public at this time.

The Middlesex County OPP Major Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are working jointly with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Major Crime Unit in Alberta on this homicide investigation and police are encouraging anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
