Jasper RCMP respond to multiple 911 calls of man with machete

On July 10, 2020, Jasper RCMP received multiple 911 calls reporting two intoxicated males in downtown Jasper at approximately 7 p.m., where one man was displaying a machete and another man was displaying a knife to a number of people in a crowded area.

Jasper RCMP attended the crowded downtown area to investigate this dynamic situation. Prior to their attendance, one of the men had allegedly gotten into an altercation with another individual and had threatened that person with a knife. The other suspect had allegedly uttered threats to cause harm. Both men were located and arrested by police. As a result of the arrests, the following items were seized: a machete, a knife and a concealed knife sheath that is worn on the body under clothing.

Michael Weber (29) of The Pas, Manitoba is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public

Timothy Weber (23) of Edmonton is charged with:

  • Uttering threats
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public

Both Webers were released on undertakings with conditions to appear in Jasper Provincial Court on August 27, 2020.
