EDMONTON — Simon Dyer, executive director of the Pembina Institute, made the following statement in response to the results of the 2019 Alberta election.
“The Pembina Institute congratulates United Conservative Party leader Jason Kenney for winning a majority government, and thanks outgoing Premier Rachel Notley for her service over the past four years, as the Alberta New Democratic Party now takes its new role as the province’s Official Opposition.
“As a national, Alberta-based non-partisan think tank, the work we have always done at Pembina addresses a very practical problem: how does Alberta and its industries thrive in an increasingly low-carbon world? We are committed to working with all levels of government, political parties, industries and stakeholders to help move Alberta toward a diversified energy future that delivers economic prosperity, environmental protection and climate security.
“In the months to come, as Albertans look to the new UCP government to deliver on its promise to strengthen Alberta’s economic performance, we encourage the government to recognize that good economic policy requires credible climate policy, which will enable Alberta to be competitive, spur lower carbon innovation and remain a supplier of choice in a changing global energy system. Anything less is short changing Albertans. We are ready and willing to work with the Government of Alberta to design and implement these crucial policies.”
