Canmore’s Mike Bloom enjoying a $100,000 windfall after matching the last six digits of the winning EXTRA number on his LOTTO 6/49 ticket for the May 13 draw.
Bloom, who picked up his winning ticket a couple of days before the draw at Husky #1225 on Highway 1 West in Dead Man’s Flats, found out about his win a few days later when he returned to the same store to check a few tickets.
As he was scanning, one of the tickets came up with “a bunch of zeroes” that he thought looked “weird,” so he passed it over to the clerk to scan. It was a winner – and Bloom said his reaction was pretty straightforward.
“WHAT?!” he recalled exclaiming with a laugh.
Even though Bloom knew about his win back in May, he opted to hold off on claiming his prize until he could do so in person. All lottery prize offices were closed to the public earlier in the year to help protect staff and winners from possible COVID-19 exposure, although prizes were still being processed by mail. Alberta lottery prize offices reopened in June with safety protocols in place.
Now that Bloom has claimed his prize and had plenty of time to dream about his winnings, he says he’s probably going to use part of them to purchase a home and share with his family.
