Edson RCMP officer charged with uttering threats, assault, mischief

An Edson, Alta. RCMP member has been charged following an investigation conducted by the Alberta RCMP Western Alberta District General Investigation Section.

Const. Ryan Deroche (34), of the Edson Detachment, has been charged with:

  • Two counts of uttering threats
  • One count of assault; and
  • Two counts of mischief under $5,000.

It is alleged that on Sept. 14, 2020, Const. Deroche threatened an adult woman in her residence. He was off-duty at the time.

Const. Deroche had been suspended with pay immediately following the incident. He has been with the RCMP for 8 years.

The Alberta RCMP believes in processes that seek the facts and it’s important that processes taken to assess the actions of all those involved, including the police, are fair, transparent, and defendable. This is why, when they become aware of a situation that requires review, they immediately initiate internal processes to look at the totality of the incident, including the actions of the member and the duty status of the member.

Const. Deroche’s first appearance in Edson Provincial Court is Nov. 3, 2020.
