Wood Buffalo RCMP have charged a 25-year-old man accused of stealing a truck at the Gregoire Lake Reserve and then backing it into an Anzac gas station.
Police say the 2018 crime spree began on Dec. 2 at 10:30 p.m. and ended at 3 a.m. on Dec. 3. It is believed the man started the evening by breaking into a business on the Gregoire Lake Reserve, and stealing multiple items and a white, flat-deck Dodge Ram.
A few hours later, the alarm at an Anzac gas station went off. Security footage showed the stolen truck backing into the store, shattering the front doors and windows and knocking over shelves, before driving away. No injuries were reported.
Billy Thompson Cardinal has been charged with breaking and entering into a business and committing mischief over $5,000, breaking and entering into a business and committing theft over $5,000, breaking and entering into a business and committing mischief under $5,000, mischief over $5,000, mischief under $5,000, theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Police have released Cardinal from custody and he is scheduled to appear at the Fort McMurray Provincial Courthouse on Dec. 16.
