Chestermere supports families in need this holiday season with Neighbourly November

The holiday season is just around the corner, but there are many residents who are going to have a challenging time making it festive due to the financial struggles of 2020.

To help ensure that everyone can have a special holiday season, the City of Chestermere would like to invite residents to participate in Neighbourly November, an initiative of the Gifts of Kindness Fund, a charity that provides short term financial support to help meet the basic needs of Chestermere and South East Rocky View residents.

Neighbourly November has three ways to help struggling families in Chestermere:

Holiday Packs:

The Chestermere Food Bank provides a holiday hamper so residents in need can have a special holiday meal. The Family & Community Resource Centre team provides a Holiday Pack of gift cards that ensure that residents can buy any other needed supplies for the celebration. How you can participate: Give a gift of $25 (or multiples of $25) through the City’s website at

Adopt a Family:

Take your holiday spirit one step further by adopting a family in need and committing to purchasing gifts for them to enjoy during the holidays! How you can participate: Donations vary but a minimum commitment of $100 worth of gifts is requested. Staff will connect with donors to discuss specific needs. Donors will be responsible for coordinating the purchase and drop off of the gifts to their donor family. Sign up to adopt a family at

Giving Tuesday:

On December 1, contribute any amount towards the general Gifts of Kindness Fund. Donors will receive a tax receipt for their monetary contributions. How you can participate: On December 1, give any amount at and your donation will be used to help families throughout the year.

“Please help make 2020 brighter for a family who has had a tough year,” says Marla Polachek, the Team Lead for the City’s Community Support Services. “By helping provide a gift card or adopting a whole family, we can ensure that all our neighbours have what they need for a cheerful 2020 holiday season.”
