AHS closes lounge, cites violations including having a DJ ‘giving incentive for patrons to lean into each other to hear conversation’

EDMONTON  – Alberta Health Services (AHS) has closed down an Edmonton lounge for not following a public health emergency.

Crown Lounge located at 8122 – 101 Street NW was shut down by AHS on Nov. 24.

The public health violations listed include nine patrons sitting together without physical distancing, loud music was playing by a DJ “giving incentive for patrons to lean into each other to hear conversation,” and patrons and staff were caught wearing masks below their noses and mouths when not consuming food or beverage.

In addition, the AHS order said patrons were observed moving between tables and not adhering to physical distancing requirements between separate dining tables. There were two large fans on the dance floor, which are prohibited during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The AHS order also said there wasn’t enough signs to educate patrons on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in highly visible areas.
