FOOTHILLS COUNTY – A hunter is in critical condition after being shot north of Okotoks.
On Dec. 15, 2020, shortly after 9 a.m., RCMP from Turner Valley, High River and Okotoks detachments responded to a report of a hunter who had been shot north of Okotoks near 80th Street E by the banks of the Bow River.
An adult male had suffered a serious injury from a gunshot wound and was airlifted by STARS to a local area hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. EMS and Foothills County Fire also responded to the incident.
A 62-year-old male from Calgary who was allegedly also out hunting, was taken into custody at the scene and is facing a charge of careless use of a firearm.
The accused has been released to appear in Okotoks Provincial Court on Feb.5, 2021.
The name of the accused cannot be released at this time as the formal charge has not yet been sworn.
