“On Christmas day, billions of people around the world are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, whose humble arrival more than 2,000 years ago continues to inspire a sense of wonder in those who rejoice in it.
“This year, our beloved traditions will look different. Feasting, gift-giving, and time spent with families will not be the same, and for many it will be a smaller and quieter celebration.
“And yet, this time of joy and gratitude comes on the heels of the year’s darkest day. It reminds us that, bit by bit, the light shall return, and with it, our assurance that brighter days are coming, just as they’ve always done.
“In the meantime, as we face the challenges before us, we remember the ancient lessons of Christmas. We protect the vulnerable, we help the stranger in need, and we recognize that hope is renewed by a child in a manger.
“I wish you all a safe and merry Christmas.”
