CALGARY – Approximately 2,000 workers received layoff notices Jan. 26 after Cenovas Energy and Husky Energy merged.
The two companies announced the $3.8-billion merger deal in October, 2020, with the goal of creating one business , which is stronger and more resilient.
Most of the layoffs of up to 2,150 positions are expected in Calgary, where Cenovus and Husky are headquartered. The layoffs are expected to happen in stages.
Shareholders of Husky and Cenovus approved the deal last month.
