SHERWOOD PARK – The artistic talent of local artists will be on display at Gallery@501 as part of the Strathcona Salon Series exhibit featuring original pieces.
The art is by both adults and high school students and showcases artwork that Strathcona County is considering for purchase or loan as part of its art collection.
From May 14 to June 12, visitors to the Gallery@501 (501 Festival Avenue, Sherwood Park) are encouraged to vote for their favourite artwork on display at the Strathcona Salon Series.
On June 13 at 7 p.m., the public is invited to a special unveiling reception at the Gallery@501 to find out which works have been selected for the Collection. At that time, the “People’s Choice Award” will be awarded based on the highest number of votes received.

Submitted artwork is juried by an independent panel with different strengths and backgrounds in the visual arts. The jurors examine and select artwork based on authenticity and originality, quality of materials, presentation, aesthetic quality, technical excellence and craftsmanship, and overall success and effect.
In 1987, Strathcona County Council approved the creation of the County’s very own art collection. From its inaugural year, which saw the purchase of seven pieces, the collection has grown to include over 347 different works of art including: pottery, handmade paper, watercolour, oil and acrylic paintings, sculptures, photographs, fabric, ink drawings, large public artworks, glass and more.
